SUMMARY:Service and fatigue: how to keep them apart.
DESCRIPTION:I found at times I would give so much of myself that I would feel worn down\, or like I can’t go on. Either I wasn’t doing it in the right spirit\, or I was just giving so much I couldn’t sustain. So where is the balance of doing and being\, or rather helping and yet still taking care of yourself and those you care about? \nThis Saturday we’re going deeper than just talking about it. We’ll look at real research on this\, including work from Adam Grant\, an organizational psychologist at Wharton who’s spent years studying why some people who give wear down\, and others don’t. \nHere’s some of what we’ll dig into: \n– Why it’s not really about how much you give\n– Why the exact same job\, the exact same shift\, can wear one person down and not another\n– When it’s actually healthier to bring someone else in\, instead of carrying it all yourself\n– Why “fill your own cup first” might not be quite right\, and what the research actually says instead \nWe are serving\, yet still serving ourselves… a healthy balance. \nThis is for anyone who gives themselves to others\, paid or unpaid. Volunteering\, nursing\, teaching\, coaching\, caregiving\, or just being the one people lean on. \n📅 Saturday\, July 18th\n🕚 11am – 12pm EDT

SUMMARY:Community Meal Service at Good Shepherd
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE EVENT \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nAn opportunity to serve the homeless and those at risk as a group.
During our recent sessions\, we served meals\, chopped veggies\, made sandwiches\, and helped prepare pasta. Each session is similar; however\, tasks may vary depending on the need at hand (e.g.\, sorting food). We had a great time serving together with lots of smiles and good energy. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nOnly 6 spots are available. If you sign up\, please do so with the intention of attending\, as the organization relies on our numbers for planning. We will send a reconfirmation message closer to the date\, and if any spots become available\, we will reach out to those on the waiting list. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nWhen you arrive at Reception\, the staff will guide you to the volunteer room\, where you can place your belongings in a locker and meet the group. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nPlease also review the official Good Shepherd volunteer guidelines before attending this shift: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1q-gAYE48yfAI9fq9YxrBVTxLLF24NU2T/view                            \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nThe guidelines include important information around safety\, confidentiality\, boundaries\, conduct\, and what to expect while volunteering on-site. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nGood to know:
 \n\n\n\n• Closed-toe shoes are required.
\n\n\n\n• Tie back long hair; minimal jewelry. \n\n\n\n• Please arrive by 1:40 PM at the latest so we can plan who will be doing which roles and begin together. \n\n\n\n• If you can’t make it due to an emergency\, please message me as soon as possible 🙏 \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nGrateful to serve alongside you. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n
